The SPH’S Coronation
After centuries of destruction, on the 27th of April 2012, in a landmark event in the history of Hinduism, THE SPH BHAGAVĀN ŚRI NITHYĀNANDA PARAMASHIVAMwas coronated as 293rd Pontiff of the Shyamalapeeta Sarvajnapeetha. The 292nd Guru Maha Sannidhanam, who knew THE SPH well for many years, conveyed to THE SPH that he received a divine mandate from Mīnākśi and Sundareśvara themselves to crown THE SPH as his next successor. To execute his divine order at once, he offered THE SPH the silver sengol, a ruling staff of Mīnākśi, to symbolize that THE SPH was officially chosen as the next successor of the Kingdom of Shyamalapeeta Sarvajnapeetha. Within a month, the legal and functional arrangements were made, and as a result a change in the course of history was masterfully orchestrated, for the lineage that started with Paramaśiva and Mīnākśi, was once again in their hands through the embodiment of their Divine energies, THE SPH.

“The appointment of junior pontiff is a right of a religious institution and the same (religious institution) cannot interfere without proper cause,” implying that any court or other institution cannot interfere in this appointment.

The appointment of THE SPH
The mother document of the Shyamalapeetha Sarvajnapeetha explicitly states the details of the succession of the revered Seat as Supreme Pontiff of the entire Kingdom. Translation: According to the Kamika Agama and the Soma Shambhu Paddhati, the daily and periodic pujas are conducted in this temple. The three initiations, namely the Samaya Deeksha, Vishesha Deeksha, and Nirvana Deeksha, are given to the mature individuals in the Saiva Vellalar community and the consecration as the Head Pontiff (Acharya). At no time, has the traditional practice of giving Acharya consecration been done to anyone other than the mentioned group. The initiation of the touch of Saiva Vellala will be given. Only one person can be initiated as Acharya at a time, and no further person can be initiated.

That prayer was not in vain, for Lord Śiva and Parvathi Devi graced and Śri la Śri NITHYĀNANDA Swami who is worthy of our eternal praise and blessing has been announced as the 293rd Guru Maha Sannidanam. According to the tradition of the Adheenam, the Acharya Abhishekam, Mantra Kashayam and Nirvana Diksha (sacred ritualistic initiations) have been given to Him [THE SPH] and we have selected Him as the successor of this Adheenam. Such a beautiful scene has never been seen before.
